How did you come up with the idea for Flip Tips?
I came up with the idea of Flip Tips because I was totally frustrated with hitting a great shot only to follow it up with a poor shot because I couldn't remember the technique to use. For example: I would hit a great drive, right down the middle of the fairway, but the ball would end up on a slight downhill lie. Because I couldn't recall what I had read somewhere on how to hit off a downhill lie, I would hit the shot fat and have to try it again. Hello Higher Score. Another thing that frustrated me was seeing someone address their ball on a sidehill lie. They wouldn't set-up properly, then when they hit the shot it would hook into the woods. Hello Slow Pace Of Play.
Some people who don't understand the use of the Flip Tips have thought that using them would slow play even more. I disagree and it can be easily proved. The first thing that you should do with Flip Tips is spend some time reviewing them and try as many shots out during your practice session as possible. Then when you get on the course and encounter a trouble shot, it is just a quick review of your stance, ball position, etc., then you hit the shot. All this can be done while your playing partner is messing around trying to figure out if he has enough club. Let me ask you this - what takes more time - taking 15 seconds to review the appropriate Flip Tip before you hit your shot, or spending 2 to 3 minutes looking for your ball in the woods because you pulled the ball off a sidehill lie?
Here's something you also might find interesting. After I came up with the idea of Flip Tips, I made a prototype and took it to the best practice range in town which also has the most respected teaching staff. I showed it to the head Pro and he thought it was a fabulous idea. He asked me where I had gotten all the tips and I told him I had a friend that was a retired golf instructor.
He even said that once I had the end product done, I could hang a bunch of them in their Pro Shop on consignment, and he also gave me another tip to add to the booklet. He thought they would go over big. When I had the completed Flip Tips, I took a bunch back to him and he refused to place them in their Pro Shop.
He implied that after speaking with his father, they thought that it would take away from their business because people would not need their lessons. If they had the Flip Tips, golfers could practice on their own. They weren't the only ones. Every Pro Shop I took the Flip Tips to, I got the same response. But, if I took them to a course that didn't currently have a Golf Pro, they would display them on consignment.
Do you offer Flip Tips in a hard version?
No, sorry. We recently ran out of a very small quantity of already printed and laminated Flip Tips.
